How to wash Afro hair

Here is a step by step guide to wash your afro hair. Caring for your afro hair includes frequent washing – and this must be carried out using the right products to grow healthy and well mositurised afro hair.
Divide your hair into 4 sections
For ease, you can sit in front of a mirror, get a tail comb or hair divider, and make a straight line horizontally and vertically. This can be done with hair clips or hair ties; the purpose of this is to make it easier to detangle and wash, also preventing hair loss whilst washing.
Just Water
Start out by drenching your hair with only water, prefarably lukewarm water, to get it lovely and soaked.

Gentle Shampooning
Next, you want to apply a gentle shampoo to dampen your afro hair, never miss this step as it protects your afro hair from breaking and loss. After this, go ahead to use a wide-tooth comb to detangle your hair following the top-bottom approach i.e you start detangling from the tip, down to the roots.
Scalp Scrubber should be your Bestie
Through your separated hair sections, while the shampoo is still soaked into your hair. Use a scalp scrubber to brush through your afro hair. This bestie lifts up any hidden dirts on your scalp and also serves as a gentle scalp massager – it is definitely a game changer. Once finished, wash out the shampoo.

Seal in the mositure
After the detangling process, ensure to cover your afro hair with a shower cap and allow it sit for a minimum of 20 minutes; this will give your afro hair the extra hydration it deserves. Rinse with luke warm water after this process.
For the final step in washing and moisturising your afro hair; apply a leave-in conditioner, according to experts, for more effective result, you can follow this up with a good hair oil such as castor oil or shea butter to lock in the moisture.
Finally, to retain the moisture, cover your afro hair with a silk scarf or satin at night and ensure to wash your afro hair every two – three weeks or according to your afro hair needs and style.
It is advisable to choose products that have been designed specifically for afro textured hair all through this process.
